The late Paul Volcker was the recipient of this year’s IFLR Americas awards Outstanding achievement award.
Volcker was a chair of the Federal Reserve from 1979-87, economic advisor to Barack Obama, where he led the Economic Recovery Advisory Board, and one of the key formulators of the Volcker Rule. He has left a deep imprint on the field of financial regulation, on the thinking behind the role that regulation should play in the markets and on the importance of effective public policy. The award reflects a lifetime of achievement.
In 2013 he set up the Volcker Alliance and as part of this year’s efforts to recognise and celebrate award winners, Americas editor John Crabb spoke with Volcker Alliance president Thomas Ross about Paul Volcker, his legacy, and what he might have made of today’s environment and the Volcker Alliance’s ongoing work.
