The Women in Business Law Awards is excited to reveal its 2023 Global Advisory Panel, comprising outstanding women attorneys from across the world. This year's panelists have provided invaluable insights and advice to help steer the Women in Business Law Awards globally.
The panelists this year include:
Ann Nam-Yeon Kwon, Kim & Chang
Ann is a senior trademark attorney at Kim & Change and a member of her firm's IP, trademark, copyright, and design practices. With over 30 years of experience, she is an energetic and effective leader known for developing creative strategies and pioneering new case law. She has received various awards throughout her career, including being honored by IP Stars as a Trademark Star and receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award in the Women in Business Law Awards Asia-Pacific 2022.
Benita Lee, Google
Benita is Google's lead data centre counsel for Asia-Pacific. Dual-qualified in England & Wales and in Singapore, Benita has more than a decade's worth of experience in infrastructure and energy and is a pioneer for women lawyers in this traditionally male-dominated area. Having been recruited from private practice by the tech giant, Benita’s role focuses on the full life cycle development of data centres while keeping to Google’s 100% renewable energy commitments. Benita actively works to foster greater involvement of women in law and in to ensure their voices are heard. In 2022, Benita was recognised as the Women in Business Law Awards In-House Rising Star for Asia-Pacific. She was also named as a Rising Star in the Rising Stars Awards (Technology) for Asia-Pacific.
Sarah Weekes, Euromoney
Sarah Weekes is legal counsel for the Euromoney Group, a global B2B information-services business. Sarah works on complex commercial contracts, IP portfolios, and M&A concerns for the company. She plays a key role in legal matters across all of Euromoney’s brands, with a keen eye for commercial strategies and business enablement opportunities. She is a critical supporter of mentorship and sponsorship schemes for women, and a champion for change in work-life balance.
Yosr Hamza, Gartner
Yosr Hamza is Gartner's director of legal and compliance in the Middle East. She has been responsible for developing Gertner's Covid-19 response and supported the company’s legal engagement rules and plan for government contracting. Yosr co-established Gartner’s legal DE&I council and is the regional advisor for the company’s Women's ERG. In 2022, Yosr was named In-House Rising Star for the Women in Business Law Awards EMEA.
Chloe Yung, Crypto.com
Chloe Yung is the group general counsel for Crypto.com in Hong Kong SAR. A futurist, Chloe started her legal career working on Hong Kong IPOs, before delving into the world of cryptocurrency. She was Crypto.com's first legal counsel. Starting her career as a sole counsel, over five years she built up a global legal team. She is a strong advocate of a better work-life balance for women, and of family planning initiatives that eradicate obstacles for woman lawyers to develop their careers. In 2022, Chloe was recognised as the General Counsel of the Year at the Women in Business Law Awards APAC.
Veronica Moo, NFP
Veronica Moo is the deputy general counsel for NFP, a leading property and casualty broker, benefits consultant, wealth manager and retirement advisor. Having started her career at an international law firm headquartered in New York, where she worked in the banking and corporate finance departments, Veronica moved to NFP, a former client, as an in-house attorney. Veronica represents the company in many corporate matters, including with respect to capital structure, debt management and equity transactions. She’s a member of the NFP's compliance and ethics committee, which is responsible for designing and implementing corporate governance practices and procedures, as well as its credit committee, which monitors compliance with the operating covenants of the company’s debt documents. Veronica is a keen supporter of mentorship and sponsorship of women at the local level. In 2022 she was recognised by the Women in Business Law Awards as the In-House Rising Star in the Americas.
Congratulations to our panelists, who played a pivotal role in developing the 2023 awards methodology and categories, and in helping to ensure that the awards best reflect the views and concerns of women in law today.
The panel confirmed that work-life balance, career development, and sponsorship opportunities remain among the most critical issues facing women attorneys worldwide. They also highlighted the multitude of diversity, equity, and inclusion challenges that women lawyers face, including a lack of visible representation, gender imbalance in positions of leadership, remote and hybrid working barriers, and a lack of mechanisms encouraging women to advocate for each other within law.
